The sacred valley was a crucial area for the Inca Empire and functioned as an agricultural, spiritual and political center for them. Along its length you can find many Inca and pre-Incan sites and the sacred valley tour gives you the opportunity to visit the 3 main sites such as Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero.

When you are visiting the city of Cusco, you will see that different tours and adventures are offered, many of them are trips of several days like the Inca Trail or the walk through the Lares Valley. But you can also find one-day tours like the rainbow mountain or the private day tour Moray, maras and chinchero.

The small rustic town of chinchero lies off the main road between Cusco and Urubamba. It sits at 3762 m above sea level, so is higher than Cusco. It is towers over by the vilcabamba range and the snowcapped peak of Salkantay this little town is missed by many but has some interesting spots for visitor to see. There is a great display of Inca architecture and megalithic carves rocks. Chinchero is home to the famous Peruvian weaving and also has a colorful market that offers some beautiful and original crafts. A beautiful adobe church sits on the plaza that can be visited daily. Chinchero is also believed to be the birthplace of the rainbow.

This stepped, amphitheater-like pits are believed to have been used by the Incas to experiment with groundbreaking agricultural methods. Because of the different elevations, the temperatures between each layer of the pit can vary by several degrees. These distinct microclimates allow different types of vegetables and cereals to grow, which couldn’t otherwise survive in the harsh Andean environment.

in addition, in moray every 1st of august the offerings to mother earth are celebrated, to thank for everything the earth gives.

Salineras de Maras

Salineras de Maras is located along the slopes of Qaqawiñay Mountain, at an elevation of 3,380 m in the Urubamba Valley, 46km outside of Cusco, Peru. This salt mine is a complex network of nearly 3,000 salt pans, shallow pools that are filled by a hyper saline underground spring. These salt pans are believed to have been developed in pre-Inca times (pre-1430 AD) and today are active hand-harvested by local families during the dry season, May through November. The naturally pink salt gets its beautiful hue from trace elements in the spring water, including calcium, magnesium, silicon, and potassium.

The Sacred Valley presents many tours and adventures for all tastes. In addition, it is highly recommended to visit the sacred valley, to acclimatize the body, before starting trips like the Inca Trail or tour to Machu Picchu either by train or by bus.

Tour Plan

Part: 1

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to start our way to Chinchero, a small village located high up in the windswept plains that offers spectacular views over the Sacred Valley and the snowcapped peaks of the Andes. Renowned for its beautiful traditional weavings, this town is the perfect place to pick up souvenirs and gifts. Here we immerse ourselves in the local community meeting village elders and the friendly local inhabitants.

We will have the pleasure to learn more of their traditional ways and practices and perhaps hear a few stories and tales. We will learn more about Puma’s mother’s foundation, the Ayni Ayllu Weaving Cooperative and hopefully pick up a few treasures for ourselves and loved ones back home.

Part: 2

After lunch, our bus takes us for a visit to the captivating Incan site of Moray, six hundred meters above Urubamba. This ancient site contains unusual Inca ruins, large circular terraces, and a sunken Amphitheatre. The circular terraces were used for agriculture and were created as a type of open greenhouse consisting of tropical microclimates. As Moray was also considered the womb of Mother Earth, it was thought to be the best place to initiate healers. Here, we will experience another connection with the sacred feminine energy for healing our physical bodies and our emotional temples.

Later in the day we travel back to Cusco.
